Hi, I’m Sophia (she/her)! If you consider yourself an emotionally sensitive person, someone who feels deeply, in your bones or gut perhaps, we have that superpower in common! My mission as your therapist will be to empower you to feel things fully and nonjudgmentally and provide you with the skills to practice managing these sometimes beautiful, confusing, or painful emotions so you can take control of your life. Throughout our collaborative journey, I will stand firm in my radical genuineness, validation and warmth, and in my belief that you are capable of coping with big emotions, doing hard things, and discovering a life worth living.
Along my personal and professional journey of exploring evidence-based therapeutic tools and approaches, I was fortunate to have discovered Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT.) I spent two years as a postbaccalaureate clinical fellow, learning from passionate DBT experts at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. I wholeheartedly believe in the healing power of DBT’s unique balance of change and acceptance and its emphasis on teachable and personalized skills. I have also volunteered for the National Suicide Hotline as a phone counselor, helping individuals stay grounded and safe in the scariest and darkest moments of their lives. I strive to tailor evidence-based approaches to prioritize your uniqueness, identities, values, culture, and personal goals above all else.
I am a therapist in training working toward my doctorate in clinical psychology at Xavier University. I have enjoyed working with teens, young adults, adults, and parents/caregivers who experience difficulties with emotion regulation (e.g., depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder), suicidal ideation, self-injury, interpersonal conflict, and identity-related concerns. Outside of private practice, I have experience working in crisis intervention, residential, and inpatient settings.
