Welcome, I'm Heather Smith. I'm glad you're considering treatment—whether it's your first time or you're returning after a break. That’s a difficult decision, and it takes courage. You may have faced many challenges in life and have reached a point where it no longer feels manageable on your own. Or perhaps things have become overwhelming enough that you're ready for change, even if treatment feels hard or scary.
Therapy can sometimes feel clinical or impersonal—I want your experience to be the opposite. My goal is to offer you high-quality care that is also compassionate and human. You deserve a therapist who meets you where you are and supports you while also challenging you to reach your goals. You are the expert on your own experience, and therapy is about empowering you to create the changes you want in your life—so you’re no longer just treading water in the chaos.
I earned my Psy.D. from Spalding University in Louisville, KY, in 2019, and have been licensed as a psychologist in Ohio since 2020. I specialize in working with individuals who have a history of trauma, personality disorders, or suicidal thoughts and behaviors. I'm trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and several suicide-specific approaches.
In addition to those specialties, I have experience working with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, mania, psychosis, interpersonal difficulties, self-harm behaviors, traumatic experiences, and life transitions.
